Thanksgiving is family time?

It seems that as soon I as come home I land back into genealogy mode. All this research and fact-sorting is way too much fun. I have been able to trace my family back to a man and woman in Pennsylvania. The man was born in 1731.

Thanksgiving was really boring. Being stuck in Savannah for a couple of days wasn't great, but at least no arguments broke out until Friday, the day we left. The city itself is incredibly cool. I wish I were able to actually find out about history things when we visit instead of having to do other things.

Going back tomorrow is a good, good thing.

Jessi is wonderful. She made really weird grunting/breathing noises when I first came home.

It is hair experimenting season again.

Cabot comes in less than a WEEK!
Daniel who gets As in chemistry who loves a girl.

In my chemistry 142 lecture, the professor puts lists of people who made As on the last exam on a slide and shows the class. He then makes these people (usually only 2-5) milkshakes at a later date. Today I was passing a bake sale table in Shriver and declining to buy anything when a boy in my chem class who has made the Milkshake List before said, "Come on, you know you want to buy a cookie." The rest went like this:

D: "Come on, you know you want to buy a cookie."
M: "Well, if an A chemistry student tells me to..."
D: "You know who I am?"
M: "Yeah. We're in class together. You sit up front."
D: "Oh."
M: "Your name is Daniel, right?"
D: "How do you know my name?"
M: "Your name was on the list. And you're the guy who sends the O-Chem emails."
D: "Do you know that I'm in love with the girl who sits next to me?"
M: "The one with blonde hair?"
D: "Yes."
M: "Nope."
D: "You can't tell?"
M: "No..."

I thought it was really cool that he was confident enough to be like, "Hey, I'm in love with this girl." People don't do that. That was the first time in a while such a thing hasn't just made me want to gag. The conversation ended there because he had to go. I wonder if she knows. It kind of sounded like she doesn't.

In other news, Ben D. from high school tuba land called last night right before athletic band. I thought it was a mistake, but as I called him back to make sure, my phone told me I had a voicemail. Still, I thought he just realized who he had accidentally called and decided to leave a message for fun. When I called, he answered, and I still expected an explanation of how he had mistakenly called me instead of some other Michelle, but he said, "It's been forever! How have you been?" He said he just wanted to know how things were going. Unfortunately I had to go to athletic band immediately. It made me incredibly happy though, just to know that he called me. I love that our sousaphone section was so close that he can just call years later to say, "What's up?" Maybe that's lame of me, but I don't care. I love them. When I got home from athletic band and the recital, I sat at the kitchen table, listened to his voicemail message four times, and cried. Today is Liz's birthday.

It is also Lisa W's.

So. Last night was the first performance of the step team, which was awesome. As soon as I found out that stepping is super-prevalent in the southern chapters, I wanted to bring it to ours. Luckily I have friends who actually make things happen, because if Kyle hadn't jumped on it, I probably would never have gotten step together. I would say I am permanently indebted to him for that, but I think $500 dollars pretty much covers it. What happens at the end of the year when I get the safety deposit back, though? Should I start to worry about it again? Shoot.

Today I met a boy who stood on one of the walls of the front Shriver Patio and sang to praise the God he believes in because he had some time between classes. I also met Rob, who stopped to talk to him about it. I left a note on his backpack.

You are much braver than I.
Some psych study thing about playing Memory with people's faces. Hooray! Tonight I am going to the Phi Delt gates, where Colorguard Rachael is giving out free pancakes with some unnamed organization from 10-12. I do not want a pancake, but I want to be friendly to her. Yay hidden motives!

Classes are alright so far. I need to start doing chemistry practice problems. BUT I did some extra credit for chem, and will be doing some for geology tonight. Botany is interesting and not all at once. I love psychology. I want to get a psychology degree and then work with tigers.

Actually, what I want most right now is to sleep. After walking to the gates and back.
There are some things I've been meaning to post about for a while.

Evan
At the Riverside Olympics at the original store on July 13th, I was talking to Evan. He is my favorite person I have met at Riverside, besides Cabot. We are completely and absolutely different, but I love him and I think he likes me quite a bit as well. He is even dating the other Michelle just so it's easier to pretend it is me, I'm sure of it. Anyway. This is going to seem totally insignificant but we were talking and he made sure he still had my number and I had his. Out of nowhere. And that meant a lot to me, that he wants to make sure that we can still contact each other, despite having absolutely no reason to. Maybe he feels the same connection I feel, or maybe cares about me the way I care about him, or maybe I'm completely wrong and he wanted my number in case he needed an emergency worker at the store this summer. I don't care. I have his number, and he has mine, and he checked that it was so.

Al
Al is the founder/owner of Riverside. On Friday, he was at our store because we had just given out coupons and were expecting a huge rush (which we got). At one point, he told me, "If you ever want a job with us and someone tells you they don't have one, tell them to call me. You are welcome here anytime." Schwhat? I didn't think Al liked me very much, and wasn't even sure he remembered that I was the same blonde-haired girl he worked with every day three years ago, and here he is, offering me guaranteed re-hire? It was quite surprising. I am only used to criticism and awkward jokes from him. To be told that was just...nice. And I want to remember that niceness, even if I never have to take him up on the offer.

David and Stas
David and I went to Stas's grave today. It was my first time there since we had a band competition at WCU the day of the funeral. Apparently my grandmother is also buried there, but I haven't been to her grave since I was a preteen at most, so I had forgotten. I wish I had known so I could find it. Maybe I will go over Thanksgiving break. We just hung out and talked about high school for an hour or so. I had to pee like crazy. A nice man who worked for the cemetery tried to help us find the grave, but David beat him to it. Instead, he told us about the metal pegs in the ground that mark the lots (Stas is in lot 214 on Oak Hill) and the family plot corner markers that were popular a while back and still square off the cemetery grounds. His name was Mark. On the phone, he talked to a woman named Renee. People are important.
